Unikkaaqtuat Premiere at Alianait Festival
Artcirq’s newest and biggest production Unikkaaqtuat premiered at the Alianait Arts Festival in Iqaluit. This event showcased the creation in front of an audience of 450 people which included the territory’s leaders and influencers. After 3 public presentations held in Montreal at the end of the creation process, the Nunavut premiere revealed overwhelming appreciation and pride for the production from the territory’s audience. With a line-up circling the building, a sold-out box office, and a standing ovation, the cast and crew were deeply impacted by the sincere and enthusiastic response. To witness this moment, was to acknowledge the meaningful legacy Artcirq has built over decades with dedicated members and collaborators through a strong and deep connection with Inuit traditions and knowledge developed over millennia. The creation of Unikkaaqtuat is a landmark within the reconciliation process, and its Nunavut premiere has launched the dissemination of a production which will inform, impact, and open pathways for audiences of all cultural backgrounds.
